Rationale: Why Landscape Approach?
In reality there are various combination of land uses and land utilisation types, including forestry, estate crops, food crops, fishery, animal husbandry, mining, and infrastructures as public infrastructures and settlement. They are active co-existing in single land area, and they interact and depend to each other. The wholeness of landscape is not well synchronised and need to be maintained continuously and in non-decreasing support to each other in the long term
At the past, the integrated landscape approach was not sufficiently attended, instead they adopted individual sector approach, that can be indicated by the strength of government institutions that were designed based on commodity and allocated with independently land designation. Forests, estates, food drops, animal husbandry, fishery, mining, and infrastructures seemed to be governed by less-synergic institutions. It may be understood that tasks and functions of those government institutions are simpler and practical, even lessening the complexity and dynamics of inter-commodity interactions
The complexity and dynamics of inter-commodity interactions are best addressed by landscape base governance (and management). With that, sustainability may be really attained. However, the landscape approach is certainly not simple matter. Needs for science development is not arguable as the necessary condition for landscape approach
